MORE ABOUT THE JUNE 1, 2016 INSURANCE CHANGES

The insurance coverage you pay for just got reduced by potentially millions of dollars. It’s important that every Ontarian talk to their insurance broker to find out how to maintain the protection they need.

Some of the cutbacks coming on June 1, 2016 include:

  • cutting in half the time you have to access benefits after a car accident, from 10 years to 5
  • reducing the amount most people can get for medical and attendant care benefits by $20,000
  • slashing the amounts available to help the most seriously injured people after a crash by $1 million
  • eliminating the life-long benefit for people so seriously injured that they have suffered a “complete inability to carry on a normal life” and replacing it with a benefit that only pays for 23 months
  • restricting expenses you can be compensated for to those that your insurance company decides are “essential,” in their opinion
  • and other changes

Learn about the optional benefits you can purchase to maximize your coverage by speaking with your broker, and by checking out this summary from the Financial Services Commission of Ontario.
