Full Time Personal Injury Law Clerk
Job description
Martin & Hillyer Associates, one of Ontario’s pre-eminent law firms located in Burlington for over 50 years, has an opening for a Full Time Law Clerk, assisting Laura Hillyer and James Page. The successful applicant must have a minimum of 5 years of experience and have experience in Civil Litigation, Personal Injury and Accidents Benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Draft pleadings, settlement/mediation and pre-trial briefs for lawyer review
- Prepare various court documents, motion materials and applications as required before the Superior Court and Licence Appeals Tribunal
- Prepare for and attend at trial
- Oversee day-to-day management of files
- Prepare Affidavit of Documents, undertaking charts, answer undertakings given at discovery
- Review files re status and moving forward
- Answer undertakings given at discovery
- Liaise with client/lawyer inquiries via telephone and email
- Deal with all aspects of Tort and AB-side of all files
- Preparation of Bills of Costs, client disbursement lists and client accounts
- Processing mail, faxes, photocopying, emailing and occasional reception coverage is required
- Other duties as assigned
The successful candidate must:
- Have knowledge of legal principles and practices through education and related experience
- Have software knowledge of MS-Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Outlook and PC Law
- Software knowledge of Filevine would be an asset
- Possess the interpersonal skills necessary in order to effectively communicate and empathize with clients, lawyers and staff
- Be a self starter who is capable of working both independently and as part of a group
- Be motivated and highly organized, with the ability to prioritize
- Possess the ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Be able to work extended hours when necessary
Compensation:
Competitive Salary plus Benefits. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
