The Sopinka United Way Legal Committee is pleased to announce that Claire Wilkinson is this year’s recipient of the John F. Evans Award of Community Distinction.
Claire is one of the community’s leading practitioners in the field of personal injury and sexual abuse litigation. Her dedication to service to the profession and to the community is remarkable. Since being called to the bar in 1995, Claire has been an active participant in continuing legal education locally and around the province.
She is a Past President of the Halton Law Association, past president of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association and is currently one of our regions Benchers for the Law Society of Ontario. She also sits on the Board of Mind Forward Brain Injury Services.
For twenty years, she and her colleagues at Martin and Hillyer Associates ran an annual bowl a thon raising funds for numerous local charities. In 2012, Claire received the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association Distinguished Service Award.
She has been a member and major contributor to the success of the Hamilton Burlington United Way Legal Committee/Sopinka Luncheon for many years. Claire’s hard work in our local legal community and in the provincial legal community at large, her exceptional contribution to worthy causes and in particular her exceptional dedication to the United Way and the Sopinka Luncheon made her nomination and the awarding of the John F. Evans award a very simple decision. The committee is proud of Claire and all that she has accomplished. We are pleased that she has accepted the award.
