Runners during the 5k Marathon

HBIA 5K BY THE BAY

Laura Hillyer of Martin & Hillyer Associates took part in the 11th annual Hamilton Brain Injury Association (HBIA) 5K by the Bay. Laura joined survivors of acquired brain injuries and their family and friends along with other members of the community to raise money and awareness.

The event was held on Saturday June 18th and had a fantastic turnout. Walkers and runners enjoyed the beautiful weather at the Hamilton Bayfront during the event. Laura loves that this event is not only for an amazing cause, but also a great excuse to practice her photography.

The event featured a 5km classic race, 1km walk, Blake Heys Memorial 1km Kids Run and a 5 x 1km team relay challenge. Prizes were awarded to the race winners and to the people with the highest pledges.

HBIA is a non-profit organization that began in 1986. They offer weekly and monthly support groups to survivors whose lives have been affected by an acquired brain injury. During these support groups survivors are able to share resources, coping techniques and emotional support between themselves. The HBIA is dedicated to raising awareness and providing education about brain injuries through ongoing support and educational programs.

The 5K by the Bay event is held every year by the HBIA to raise funding for support services. For more information about the 5K by the Bay or HBIA, please visit their website.
